Please contact us to be a contestant, sponsor or to get tickets for the Ms. Wheelchair Maine 2012 event put on by the Ms. Wheelchair Maine Leadership and Advocacy Organization. The tickets are $5 and the donation will go directly to the new Ms. Wheelchair Maine to help her start raising the $3,500 needed for Ms. Wheelchair America 2013.
Alpha One primary is sponsoring the Ms. Wheelchair Maine 2012 event on January 21st at the Wyndham Hotel.
Ms. Wheelchair Maine 2012 is to select the best spokeswoman to represent for people with disabilities in Maine. She will act as an advocate and leader in the community by going to events, schools, functions, presentations, fundraisers, etc. She will continue the mission that Ms. Wheelchair Maine Organization represents by making a difference to breaking down barriers and promote inclusion for people with disabilities.
Contesants
Jan 20 – Participants will be doing bonding activities and the ladies will go to dinner together that evening to get to know each other.
Jan 21 – Par
ticipants will go through 2 interview sessions, workshops, hair/make-up, , the pageant and crowning ceremony. (Everything will be on-site at the hotel).
*An accessible hotel room on January 20th will be provided for all of the contesants. Breakfast, lunch and beverages will also be provided for each contestant and their companion on January 21st.
Responsibilities of the state titleholder
- Travel within the state to do speaking engagements and public appearances for the following: political leaders, public education, Hospital/Rehabilitation Facilities, a parade and supporting various disability organizations.
- Be willing to assist in fundraising and finding sponsors for the Ms. Wheelchair Maine organization for her trip to the National competition.
- Travel to the National Ms. Wheelchair America and represent the state of Maine.
- Be willing to advocate the platform she has chosen to raise awareness and the accomplishments of women in wheelchairs.
- Assist in future recruitment of future contestants, act as a hostess for next year’s pageant, prepare a farewell speech/letter, and crown the new titleholder.
